Ano Mera is the second biggest town on the island, that maintains a small town feel. In fact, this is a fairly quiet place that will offer visitors to the island a place to relax and enjoy the island beyond all the parties. The highlight of Ano Mera is Panagia Tourliani monastery, that according to tradition in the beginning of the 16 th. century, the miraculous icon of Panagia Tourliani, made by evangelists Lukas, was found floating on the waters of Tourlos Beach. For fear of the pirates, locals thought appropiate to protect this Godsent relic and transfer it to a safe place away from the sea.
